Significance

The central theme to Marian McPartland's career is that of Jazz Pianist.  Her background prior to becoming established is traced in the first chapter of this historical overview.  Then the decades of her life as a jazz pianist are portrayed.  This is followed by 'portraits' of her work as an educator, a writer, a recording artist and a radio program broadcaster across the decades.  Each chapter is followed by a list of references.
